I decided that I wanted it to be a "visual journal," where I could write things but also try and express myself in some artistic ways if possible. I'd say it's been pretty successful, and I still keep up with it to this day. I think that 2+ years of journaling counts as "steady!"

I've scanned a few of my favorites into my computer. I absolutely loved it and had no clue how difficult it would actually prove to be. I expected that yoga would be some easy-going relaxing class, but boy was I wrong. I left that class sweating and groaning every day. I had no clue how hard she would push us. But, to my surprise and excitement, all the hard work paid off and I was finally able to cross off item 101! Here's a bad shot of me doing the split (and you can just barely make out my cat lazing about in the background, haha!).

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_0Z2zgH5M94E/TA8EgZIN8NI/AAAAAAAAAiY/KyrfIPnD2NI/s320/Photo+on+2010-04-02+at+00.32+%233.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5480604226080862418" />
No telling how long that ability will last, but it's definitely exciting just to have been able to do it before my 101 days were up!

#58--Send A Message In A Bottle

Now, no one said that this message had to be thrown into the ocean or anything like that, so I still count this as a win. I found a message in a bottle sent to me, along with a copy of The Old Man and the Sea, to help me cross off #99. So, in return, I wrote a letter, stuck it in the bottle, and sent it back to him. The actual learning and cooking took place in roughly September, I believe. At the time, I was dating a boy who was really encouraging me to learn how to cook (he's a great cook), so I was getting more adventurous in my culinary excursions. My favorite thing that I made that I feel I could easily make again was baked ziti. I LOVED it, and so did he. It was incredibly tasty and I would be very happy making it for a dinner party or potluck in the future!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_0Z2zgH5M94E/TA8BX26ua6I/AAAAAAAAAiA/6KCwn1clW10/s320/photo(2).jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5480600780923628450" />

#93--Attend a Redskins Game

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_0Z2zgH5M94E/S1QMBmWNdnI/AAAAAAAAAg8/oTj9ZRzhQwE/s320/IMG_0189.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5427976672501397106" />Sunday, December 6th, I got to go see the Saints play the Redskins at home with a good friend, his dad, and his dad's friend. It was my Christmas present from him, since he knew this was on my list! It was UNBELIEVABLY cold outside, so I was wearing two pairs of pants, something like 6 shirts/jerseys/sweatshirts, gloves, and a hat. I look like I gained about 125 pounds!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_0Z2zgH5M94E/S1QMO75RgOI/AAAAAAAAAhE/NWWVnm_Ufck/s200/IMG_0193.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5427976901623906530" />We had amazing seats (his family has the coveted season tickets!) that gave us awesome field perspective. I could see every play almost perfectly, and I could see the TWENTY-THREE YARD FIELD GOAL THAT SUISHAM MISSED no problem. (Don't know what I'm talking about? I decided to stop in, and saw a clearly homeless man sitting on the sidewalk outside. It was below freezing, and he was shivering. I didn't have a coat to give him, or anything, but I awkwardly asked if he'd like something to eat.

He was completely appreciative, and I got him a toasted sub in an attempt to warm him up as well as feed him. Anyway, I know I only helped a tiny bit, but it made me feel good. He probably won't remember me, but that's okay.

Since I can't remember the exact date, I'll just put November 2009 :)

#87--Make a Scrapbook For a Person I Love

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 212px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_0Z2zgH5M94E/Sj1Z1i6XX-I/AAAAAAAAAZ8/jao7HeR2V94/s320/sc001134dc.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5349530708825563106" />
During the fall semester of '08, my best friend studied abroad in Rome, Italy. I simply called it "I miss you."

I wish I had scans of all the pages, but I only have a few that I'm proud enough of to share.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 294px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_0Z2zgH5M94E/Sj1feEwT9CI/AAAAAAAAAaE/Jd5E0g9l4Ak/s320/sc00124b68.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5349536902663107618" />

#69--Do Something Worthy

It took a while for me to think about what I consider to be something "worthy." On a whim, I just emailed the art department and asked if they were looking for any models. Turns out they were looking for face models and nude models, and so I signed up. I did face modeling one day, and nude modeling two days. I didn't know if I'd have the guts to actually go through with the nude modeling, but I told myself I wanted to push my comfort zones a little bit, so I just bit the bullet and went for it.

It was really cool! I learned how to basically shut off all the things in my mind telling me to be self-conscious, or reminding me how uncomfortable it was to hold that pose. I was able to see the drawings the class produced, and they were truly amazing. I wish I had access to one to put on the blog, but sadly, I don't. If I ever get the ability to, I'll add it for sure.

#8--Travel via Plane Alone

On May 22nd, I flew alone from Norfolk, VA to New York City, and from there went on to Salt Lake City for the wedding of two friends. I had a lovely time there, and then flew back (through Atlanta) in time to go back to work. It was awesome to finally fly alone. On the way there, I sat next to a boy my age who was taking the same flights to SLC. We ended up talking and becoming friends, spending the many-hour layover together. We didn't exchange information or anything, so I have no idea what he's up to now, but it was really cool to make a new friend on my first solo flight!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_0Z2zgH5M94E/Sj1-ATSF8wI/AAAAAAAAAaM/MGDcVvPZbII/s200/4702_97743706770_682196770_2505551_12112_n.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5349570476027278082" />
Here's a picture of me with the happy couple I went to go see!

#1--Have a Steady Pen-Pal

Sorry about the lack of updates--I've been working on my list, I just keep forgetting to write about it! Living by myself in a place where I don't know anyone leaves me sort of pressed for things to do. I'd drive the 40 minutes back to my school's town to hang out with friends there, but the gas just isn't worth it.

So this weekend I've spent alone. Honestly, I've been alone since Thursday evening, and I won't be seeing anyone until Monday at 10 for an interview. It's okay, though, it helps me accomplish this goal.

I've made Easy Mac and Ramen, I made myself brinner (breakfast for dinner), I've watched Home Improvement on Nick at Nite's Summer Improvement Week. I've read pages and pages in Paramedic by Peter Canning, and I've cross stitched a ton. I write blog entries and I talk on the phone. I listen to music and take long baths. I've sat on the balcony drinking tea during sunrise. I even walked down to the grocery store and just wandered through the aisles, picking things up and looking at them and checking out the people who were there too. It's boring. But the coolest part has been lying on the couch going in and out of consciousness at random times during the day, because I have nowhere to go and no one to impress.

But I'm tired of it. I guess I thought of a lot of free time as being a mini-vacation. In some ways it is, but in others...well, vacations are usually spent with other people. I don't really feel safe walking down the streets downtown by myself, so I haven't really met...uh...anyone. It's okay, though, this is what I wanted to do, and now I've done it. I feel a sense of accomplishment, but I look forward to starting my job and interacting with people on a daily basis.

#84--Live As A Nudist For A Day

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_0Z2zgH5M94E/SDnyxUhYYFI/AAAAAAAAAGA/6ozdBgibZfw/s320/Photo+212.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5204457773539549266" />
Well, for 24 hours, I did just that. I'm currently living in a place by myself, so I didn't have to worry about roommates.

Basically, I just lowered all the blinds and did the things I normally do, just...naked.

Things I learned:
When cross stitching naked, be sure you know where the needle is.
Make selections from the fridge very quickly.
If you stay naked for a while, you'll forget about it. Make sure you don't walk out the door.
Skin sticks to leather couches very uncomfortably.
When you walk past a mirror, you will most likely surprise yourself. "Oh, hey, I'm naked."

It was a really interesting experience, that's for sure.

#85--List 100 Things That Make Me Happy About My Closest Loved Ones

I did another set of 100 for Anni, one of my absolute closest friends.

There's nothing quite like it, honestly. It really forces you to sit down and consider every reason why that person is so close to you. It's a wonderful feeling to be reminded about all the great qualities that person has, even if you never really forgot.

As much as they are affirming for one's friendships and other relationships, I think this could be really self-affirming. After I've done a set for my closest loved ones, I think I'll do one for myself as well.

Sorry I don't have more to report, but with exams and all, life was pretty hectic. We decided to get some air, so we went outside, and it was raining slightly. I decided that I really, really wanted to do something in the rain, so a bunch of us thought that we'd cross off #78. Just then, it started POURING rain, and everyone wimped out and headed back inside. I was pretty adamant about doing it, though, so I was going to do it regardless. One person was going to make sure he saw me cross off a life goal, however.

Together, we went out to the street corner in the downpour and stood underneath the stop sign. I sang "Summertime," more to him, really, than to the world. We were both shivering because the rain was freezing cold and we were wearing party-clothes. Since it was about 1:30am, the street wasn't very busy, but I'm crossing this one off anyway.

When we came back inside, we were soaked to the bone. My hair got majorly frizzy and my make-up was running everywhere, but I didn't care at all because I had such an amazing and unforgettable time.

This one was a ton of fun, and I can't wait to do more like it. As we were heading back inside, he said "I'm glad I got to help you accomplish a life goal." I'm so lucky to have friends like these.

#19--Learn to Conduct

For my party, one of my friends helped me learn how to conduct "Iris" by The Goo Goo Dolls. This took the help of my two roommates, 4 rolls of yellow duct-tape from Wal-Mart, and probably 3 or 4 hours. The tape was all doubled so that none of it was sticking to me. We stuck a snippit of Fire Line tape across it like a sash for fun

It was really neat because since I was basically taped into it, it was a perfect fit for me. People seemed to really like it, and it was sort of hard to miss me at the party. We cut me out of the dress with the intent of maybe putting a zipper into it later so that it can be worn later. Who knows.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_0Z2zgH5M94E/R_k3SxtFoBI/AAAAAAAAAC0/nFwvdM9TSx8/s200/CIMG9296.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5186237241613459474" />I had people sign it with a sharpie after I got out of the dress and into a different one, which was really neat. I think I'll end up hanging it on the wall of my apartment next year as a reminder both of the apartment and my list.

I think it's amazing that I have roommates that would spend so much time on this dress to help me have a great birthday and to help me achieve a life goal. I knew I wanted to have a party, and I wanted there to be a theme to said party. I wanted it to be something neat, but I didn't know what I could to that hadn't been done before and wouldn't soon be forgotten. My roommates and I were brainstorming when I came up with the idea to do a 101 Things Party.
Rather than have people show up and feel awkward for not getting me a present, or just get trashed (as is typical at college birthday parties), we'd try to accomplish as many of my things in one day as possible. I thought it would probably be a big flop, and people would just want to be drunk, but it's turning out really well. We're going to have poster boards with my list written out, and people are going to write suggestions of how I can accomplish my tasks underneath them. Some things we're going to definitely accomplish (16, 48, 58, 73, 74, 80, 82), and then we're going to try and think up ways to do more as the night progresses. I'm so excited, and I can't wait to see how this turns out.
I'm going to take tons of pictures and do a massive update afterwards. I'm stoked! 10 days until my birthday, 8 until the party :)

#5--Forgive Someone I Have A Grudge Against

Hmm, bad grammar. Regardless.

To "you":
You hurt me deeply. I didn't realize that someone I loved so much could act that way. I always assumed you loved me as much as I loved you, but maybe you never did. But they say you hurt the ones you love, so maybe you actually did. Aside from all that, you hurt me in a way that I will never forget; I'll never forget the way it stung when you said those few simple words as long as I live.
But I forgive you. You are young and probably never realized what you did to me. It's not fair for me to hold this against you, and therefore I won't from here on out.
Sorry for the bad things I may have said to you, and the even worse things I may have said about you to my girlfriends.
Sincerely,
"me"

I let "you" know that the grudge was forgiven, but I'm not sure if "you" even knew there was a grudge to begin with. With some time and patience, I can actually produce a drawing that looks like what I'm drying to draw--more or less.

This is an unfinished drawing:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_0Z2zgH5M94E/R9Rb0W4MFHI/AAAAAAAAABU/JNnSOh-hljw/s400/Photo+161.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5175862826808120434" />

of this picture:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_0Z2zgH5M94E/R9RcM24MFII/AAAAAAAAABc/9PLMntqSxXA/s400/MyPicture.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5175863247714915458" />

Yes, I realize they don't look exactly alike. But this is the closest I've gotten to drawing a face that looks like a face. Eee!

P.S.--I should mention that the drawing is way better in real life. Photobooth doesn't take good pictures (of anything or anyone), so when I a) finish this and b) have my scanner again, I'll put up a high res scan of it.

#46--Be Published In A Magazine/Journal

Well, as it turns out, I was published in the Wall Street Journal on January 25th, 2008. The Glock was my definite favorite!
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_0Z2zgH5M94E/R8WVDbD-miI/AAAAAAAAAAk/YoJx6-CATNY/s200/DSC_6997.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5171703633141471778" />
Turns out I'm not that bad of a shot! When I'm 21 and allowed to buy a handgun, I think I'm going to for sure.
Well, consider this one done, but not done forever. After much thought and deliberation, I was able to come up with 101 things I thought were plausible, but still required some major effort on my part.
I created this blog in an attempt to chronicle my 1,001 days and the evolution of this project. On the right-hand side of this blog, you will find my list. I will <s>strikeout</s> those that I have accomplished, along with the date it was completed. I will also make updates in this blog about my progress, successes and failures. I'm definitely going to be asking for help (anyone want to be my pen-pal?) and input, and I'll be sure to blog with pictures and other forms of evidence.
